About Masculinity Kenya

Masculinity Institute – MAIN Kenya is a National Non-Governmental Organization registered by the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya in 2012. MAIN works towards promoting the social, cultural, and mental well-being of boys and men. This is in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030, Agenda 2063 of the African Union, and Sustainable Development Goals – SDG’s of the United Nations.

Our interventions promote transformative masculinities for combating patriarchy. The existing patriarchal ideology, systems, and structures have contributed to the disempowerment of men and boys in Kenya. Patriarchy erodes human rights of men and boys; it leads to self-distraction, discrimination, and violence among other vices. Patriarchal systems and structures are men-dominated thus, men are at a vantage position to eradicate and replace them with transformative masculinity ideologies. To achieve this transformation, our interventions re-socialize boys and men into better human beings within their environment.

MAIN Kenya has created a safe space for addressing boys’ and men’s concerns in life. It works with men and boys at different levels with specific target on men dominated sectors and institutions. Our interventions socialize boys and re-socialize men to self-care, adopt a healthy lifestyle and a violence free life. It works to establish a society of men and boys cultured on human rights. Our transformative masculinities interventions are central to changing the traditional gender norms, and engaging men and boys in care work as a tool for personal and family bonding.

MAIN Kenya is a convergence where boys and men co-create solutions to better themselves and societies where they live in for a life-long experience. We work to dispel myths and misconceptions about boys and men without prejudice. It is a space for addressing personal and social conflicts.

This is a safe space for boys and men.
